The Barbara and Amos Hostetter Internship Program (HIP) at Jacob’s Pillow is designed to assist the development of diverse leadership in cultural institutions and expand opportunities for early career individuals who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, and other People of Color, and is part of the Pillow’s ongoing efforts to improve inclusion, diversity, equity and access in all areas of dance and to serve individuals of any race or ethnicity who are members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in performing arts and performing arts organizations.
For decades, Jacob’s Pillow’s Internship Program has been an important training ground for leadership in the performing arts, and Pillow interns have gone on to serve in leadership positions across the field. The number of available slots in the HIP typically align with approximately 20% of the available slots in the Pillow’s Internship Program. In 2025, this will benefit up to five qualified individuals who apply and meet the criteria listed below. These interns will receive a total of $5,000 and travel/sundry stipends up to $1,000 with submission of receipts or mileage, along with room and board. To apply for HIP, simply submit an application for any of our internship positions and check yes when asked if you are eligible HIP.
As a part of their participation in the internship program curriculum, HIP recipients will be expected to:
- Participate in two panel discussions with BIPOC leaders in the field
- Spend 5 hours of time with a provided mentor over the course of the year following the internship
We hope participants will also stay in close touch as their careers develop and be active members in our alumni community.
Applicants to HIP will be notified if they have been selected for an internship and HIP simultaneously. Determinations are made by a sub-committee of the staff’s IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility) committee based on the criteria listed below and the information derived from your full application materials.
If you are not sure if you are eligible, please don’t hesitate to contact info@jacobspillow.org.
The criteria for selection include:
- Race and ethnicity, in relation to their underrepresentation in performing arts and performing arts organizations
