Russell Janzen is a former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, where he initially joined as an Apprentice in 2007 and would go on to dance with the company for 16 years before retiring in September 2023. Throughout his time with the New York City Ballet, Russell performed featured roles in upwards of 60 ballets choreographed by George Balanchine, Justin Peck, Jerome Robbins, Pam Tanowitz, and Christopher Wheeldon, among others. Russell originated roles in 17 world premieres including Pam Tanowitz’s Solo for Russell: Sites 1-5 and Law of Mosaics,  Justin Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, Everywhere We Go, and Bright, and Troy Schumacher’s Common Ground. In addition to performing, Russell worked closely with the New York City Ballet’s Education Department, leading workshops for children, teens, adult beginners, dancers with disabilities, and dance instructors.
