Lawrence Rhodes began his career with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. He became a principal dancer at the Joffrey Ballet. Rhodes then became principal dancer with the newly-formed Harkness Ballet and was later voted artistic director while continuing to perform. In 1970, he joined the Het Nationale Ballet, becoming a permanent guest artist. He has also been co-director of the Milwaukee Ballet, guest artist and principal dancer with The Pennsylvania Ballet, and a principal dancer with Elliot Feld Ballet. After tenure as teacher and chairman of the dance department at New York University, Rhodes spent an outstanding decade as Artistic Director of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Since 2002, Rhodes has served as Artistic Director of The Juilliard Dance Division. He received a Dance Magazine Award for his outstanding work in the industry in 2008, and the Lifetime Career Achievement Award in 2009 from Dance Teacher Magazine.
