About
Jessica Lang Dance
July 5-8, 2017
“A prolific choreographer of skillfully constructed dances that respectfully mesh with music and striking visual design” (The New Yorker), Jessica Lang and her company return to Jacob’s Pillow with a program set to live music.
In addition to a Pillow-commissioned world premiere work, the program includes Lang’s Thousand Yard Stare, a work embodying the incredible pride, honor, and searing loss experienced by military veterans, set to emotive Beethoven music. The program will also include the east coast premiere of Lang’s Lyric Pieces set to Norwegian composer and pianist Edvard Grieg’s short piano pieces with striking set design by Molo Designers Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen. The program will also include Lang’s Solo Bach, Sweet Silent Thought, and The Calling.

What People are Saying about Jessica Lang Dance
“A prolific choreographer of skillfully constructed dances that respectfully mesh with music and striking visual design”
The New Yorker
“New York choreographer Jessica Lang has a knack for conceiving a complete universe in each dance- distinctive in its look and mood, sound and atmosphere…Lang’s visual sense is remarkable, and it has come to characterize her aesthetic”
The Los Angeles Times
While her works are firmly in the contemporary vein, Lang’s movement vocabulary largely stems, transparently and unapologetically, from more traditional ballet forms. An arabesque often looks, well, just like an arabesque…it’s refreshing to remember that sometimes (remember that arabesque?) a dance can just be a dance, that good taste, strong artistic genes, and spirited performers can be – if not surprising – enormously satisfying.”
The Boston Globe
