About

Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) at Jacob’s Pillow: The Royal Ballet of the United Kingdom

This workshop took place on July 6, 2024.

Workshop Facilitators: Ann Biddle (Director, DEL at Jacob’s Pillow) and Felice Santorelli (DEL Facilitator).

Participants DELved into an interactive and embodied workshop linked to The Royal Ballet of the United Kingdom and explored the nationally acclaimed Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) pedagogy model to investigate a choreographer’s work through multiple entry points.

Drawing from the extensive resources of Jacob’s Pillow Dance Interactive, participants engaged in meaningful dance learning activities that explore diverse dance artists, genres, and eras within a cultural, historic, and social context. Multi-modal teaching strategies include movement observation, embodied reflection, reconstruction practices, collaborative research, and collective dance-making.

There is a large stage, mostly empty except for 2 ballet dancers. The man dancers wears taupe bottoms and no shirt while the woman dancer wears a medium pink leotard and her long, blonde hair is free. The sky is bright and the tall, green trees create a majestic picture, framing the lift that the two dancers perform.
