for a Benefit supporting
The School at Jacob's
Pillow.
For:
25 dancers, age 16 and up, preparing for Broadway/musical theatre,
with singing and acting experience
Program Director Chet Walker, with directors, musicians, and award-winning
Broadway
choreographers, will train participants, creating original numbers
on them. The benefit presentation will feature a Broadway celebrity
performing with participants to highlight work created during
the program.
Daily
classes with live music will include ballet and jazz dance techniques,
vocal warm-ups,
and repertory development. Afternoon and evening sessions will
be devoted to rehearsing
numbers in performance mode. Faculty talks, seminars with industry
professionals, and
Archive work sessions will explore the history and evolution of
jazz and musical theatre,
including features on a few artists who significantly contributed
to the field, as well
as audition and career-building strategies.
In
addition to the August 17 presentation,free public showings on
August 2, 9, and 16
will build performance skills and educate audiences about this
American art form. Attendance at Festival events, including
performances, talks, exhibits, and master classes, will be an
integral part of the program.
