Eminent choreographer Bill T. Jones is regarded as an artist of extraordinary brilliance and an American treasure. In addition to creating more than 140 works for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, he has a Tony Award for Spring Awakening, received the MacArthur Genius Award in 1994, and and won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Choreography for his Broadway hit FELA!
In celebration of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, Jones created Serenade/The Proposition, an impressive, multilayered collage of powerful physicality, stunning dancers, American history, and striking visual design. Jones expertly intertwines video, costume, and sets in this feast for the senses set to a score of American folk music, excerpts from famous Civil War-era speeches and spoken word ranging from personal anecdotes to lyrics from "The Battle Hymn of the Republic, " all performed live at the Pillow. A photography exhibit featuring the work of Arnie Zane and July 22 PillowTalk with Jones complement the company's weeklong engagement.
